Sgurr a'Mhaoraich

16th June 2012

An intrepid band of nine explorers braved unseasonally cold temperatures and a brisk north-easterly wind on an ascent of Sgurr a'Mhaoraich above Loch Quoich.

The stalkers path up Bac nan Canaichean gave easy access up onto the subsidiary peak of Sgurr Coire nan Eiricheallach, where we found temporary respite from the strong winds.

Then a very enjoyable ramble along the fine ridge leading west towards the main summit.

A short pause before tackling the steep pull up to the main summit through some rocky sections.  Stewart and Pete did the "sporting" route up the ridge crest, whilst the rest of us opted for the easier path which wound its way past the difficult sections.

Sheltering just below the cairn out of the wind.  After lunch we headed south onto the broad south ridge, which gave an absorbing descent down to the loch.

Well done everyone!  I'm hoping that eventually we'll get a warm and sunny day for one of these walks!
